Battle of the Salads: Soul Origin vs Sumo Salad
What usually comes to mind first when a person thinks ‘healthy
eating’? Salad! Salads are a great way to eat healthy while also being able to
have a delicious meal and there are so many to choose from. Most salads, even
those with only a few ingredients are enough to make for a meal rich in
nutrition. Just the veggies itself contain calcium, iron, potassium, vitamins
and antioxidants. Not only that, the vegetables in salads are great sources of
fibre, keeping your digestive system healthy.
Today, I have gone out and bought a basic chicken Caesar salad
from both Sumo Salad and Soul origin and I will be comparing the two so you can
get the best tasting salad for the best price! Both soul origin and sumo salad
use the exact same ingredients with the only differences being that sumo salad
uses grilled chicken and soul origin uses poached chicken and that sumo salad
has a Caesar dressing, whereas soul origin had lime mayo. Our criteria will be:
price, taste, presentation and healthiness.

Left - Sumo Salad Right - Soul Origin |
Price
Soul origin - $8.50
Sumo salad - $8.50
I have bought a small size from both shops and their price
is exactly the same, however, I believe sumo salad has a bigger portion.
Otherwise, the price is so similar that it shouldn’t play a factor.
Taste
Soul origin’s chicken seems to have a blander taste as it’s
a poached chicken when compared to the grilled chicken from Sumo Salad.
However, their croutons are much fresher and crunchier, as Sumo Salad’s
croutons seemed soggy and stale. That being said, I much prefer Sumo Salad’s Caesar
dressing compared to Soul Origin’s lime mayo, but that might be a little biased
as I generally do not like mayonnaise that much. As such, taste wise, I must
say Sumo Salad was much more enjoyable to eat compared to Soul Origin, mainly
due to the much better tasting chicken.
Presentation
Presentation wise, there isn’t much of a difference as they’re
both takeaway, but I believe Soul Origin’s container is much easier to eat out
of as it’s wider. Besides that, there isn’t much of a difference so I’d say they’re
pretty much even.
Healthiness
Soul origin doesn’t provide any nutritional information on
their website so I cannot give a judgement.
So which one do I prefer? Definitely Sumo Salad! But that doesn't mean Soul Origin's salad wasn't good, they both were!
