Focusing on Yourself
"Are YOU okay?"
Last week we discussed a quick overview of mental health and what it means to be mentally healthy.
Today we're going to zoom in and shift the focus on you.
A lot of people are so distracted by themselves in the bigger picture, such as in their social media landscape, they tend to forget, or lose regard for their own wellbeing.
Many people become anxious without knowing, and when that happens regularly, one becomes accustomed to anxious feelings.
Focusing on yourself not only helps rid anxiety, but will improve your quality of life as you are more self aware of all that is happening.
Just like one should keep track of their diet and what they are ingesting, it's important to keep track of what material (such as media) you are exposing yourself to.
Here are some ways to do that:
1. Use journals
What are you grateful for? It helps to write, to empty negative thoughts and fill those with positive statements. And in this day and age of technology, there are many apps catered to this. My personal favourites are 'Question of The Day' by Sporkfly Media available for Apple devices and 'One Self-Reflection Question' by Pione Studio for Android. This helps you stay on top of your purpose, values and meaning.
2. Go on a cleanse
Going on cleanses will help in feeling refreshed. This helps you be more aware of what you are putting in your body. One could try a junk food cleanse, or even just incorporating detox waters, which is basically water infused with fruits and/or veggies. These can range from being just infused with vitamins and benefits to being metabolism and energy boosting. This is not the holy grail method health, but it is guaranteed to make you feel better, if not just a tiny bit.

It has also been popular recently to try a social media cleanse. Delete Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook! If Facebook messenger is your main form of messaging, you could always just delete the Facebook app on your phone. That way, people can reach you and you won't have the impulse to scroll through your news feed all the time.
These are just two things you can incorporate while on a tight schedule of uni and/or work. They take up practically no time at all and are beneficial in the long run. Remember to stay self aware, and focused on YOU.
See you all next week with some stress & time management tips!
